About Amkor Technology
Amkor Technology is an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test provider, or OSAT. Chipmakers send it finished wafers, and Amkor packages the dies into usable components and tests them, charging per unit. It is the world's second-largest OSAT and the largest headquartered in the US, with factories across Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, and other Asian sites.
Its growth engine is advanced packaging: 2.5D integration and high-density fan-out used to assemble AI accelerators and high-performance processors, plus system-in-package modules for phones and cars. Amkor is building an advanced packaging and test campus in Peoria, Arizona, near TSMC's fabs, with CHIPS Act support.
Founded in 1968, Amkor is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, employs about 30,800 people, and trades on the NASDAQ.
Amkor Technology in the AI buildout
Amkor sits in the Semiconductors layer and Chip Equipment layer of the buildout. As AI chips grow into multi-die systems, packaging has become a bottleneck as critical as wafer fabrication, and Amkor is the leading Western merchant provider of the 2.5D and fan-out technologies involved. Its Arizona campus is designed to close the loop on a domestic AI supply chain: wafers fabbed by TSMC in Phoenix can be packaged and tested nearby instead of returning to Asia.
AMKR is tracked in Semiconductors and Chip Equipment & Foundries, rated Strategic on the AI Exposure leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions
What does Amkor Technology do?
Amkor packages and tests semiconductors for chipmakers. It takes finished wafers, assembles the dies into protected, connectable components using technologies from basic wirebond to advanced 2.5D integration, and verifies they work. It is the second-largest such provider in the world.
How is Amkor Technology exposed to AI?
Advanced packaging for AI accelerators and high-performance computing is Amkor's fastest-growing business, and its Arizona campus links it to the US AI chip supply chain. Supercycle rates it Strategic with an AI Exposure Score of 52 out of 100.
Why does Amkor's Arizona campus matter?
Advanced chips made at TSMC's Arizona fabs currently need to travel to Asia for packaging. Amkor's planned Peoria campus would let AI and mobile chips be packaged and tested near where they are fabbed, completing a domestic supply chain that both hyperscalers and the US government want.
Is AMKR a pure play AI stock?
No. Supercycle classifies Amkor as Strategic. AI packaging is its highest-growth line, but smartphones, automotive, and consumer chips still generate most revenue, so results depend on broad electronics demand as well as the buildout.
Who leads Amkor?
Kevin Engel serves as president and CEO of Amkor Technology. The company was founded in 1968, pioneered the outsourced packaging model, and now operates factories across Asia with headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.
