What is a neocloud?
A neocloud is a cloud provider built specifically to rent out AI compute, usually GPU capacity, rather than the full menu of general cloud services. Neoclouds buy accelerators in bulk, wrap them in data centers and power contracts, and lease the capacity to AI companies that need compute faster than hyperscalers can supply it.
Why it matters for AI investors
Neoclouds are among the most concentrated public bets on AI compute demand: their contracts, capex, and power deals are direct readings of how much AI capacity the market wants. The same concentration cuts the other way, with a few large customers, fast-depreciating hardware, and heavy debt making them some of the highest-beta names in the universe.

How is a neocloud different from a hyperscaler?
A hyperscaler runs a general-purpose cloud with hundreds of services and its own consumer or enterprise businesses attached; a neocloud sells essentially one product, AI compute by the hour. That focus lets neoclouds move faster on GPU deployment, but it also means they lack the diversified revenue that cushions hyperscalers when compute prices fall.
